Family Recipes

I don't have many recipes, but I figured that if I put them on the website, I would always be able to find them :-)

Grandma's Casserole

(adjusted to fit the size of my family)

1 lb of ground beef - browned

2 large cans of Franco American Spaghetti - I think it's Campbells now

2 large cans of baked beans

1 pack of bacon

About a cup of brown sugar

A few squirts of ketchup

Onion - optional

Cook the bacon. Put all the ingredients together in a big casserole dish. Put some of the bacon across the top. Stir it all up and cook it for about an hour at 375 degrees. I know my measurements aren't really specific but I usually just make this out of memory and add stuff as I think it needs it.

Poppy Seed Christmas Cookies

from the Wisconsin Electric Power Co Christmas Cookie Book from the 60's. These cookies are so good! They have always been my favorite - ever since I was a little kid. This recipe is for a double batch because one just isn't enough.

2 cups of butter

1 cup of sugar

4 egg yolks

2 teaspoons of vanilla

7 cups of flour

1/2 tsp salt

6 tablespoons of Poppy Seeds

Chocolate Stars or Chocolate Kisses

Cream butter. Add sugar gradually. Beat in egg yolks and vanilla. Add flour, salt, and poppy seeds. Chill. Shape into one inch balls. Place one inch apart on greased cookie sheet. Put a depression in the center of each cookie and bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.  While the cookies are still on the tray, add the chocolate star or Kiss and leave on the tray until the chocolate has heated through.
